Make a real impact in California’s communities while helping young adults build brighter futures. The California Conservation Corps (CCC) is seeking a dedicated Conservationist 2 (PSCW) to lead, mentor, and inspire Corpsmembers while coordinating vital public service conservation projects throughout the Inland Empire and the State of California.

This is more than a job, it’s an opportunity to guide crews, strengthen communities, and support statewide conservation and emergency response efforts. In this dynamic leadership role, you will help shape the success of daily PSCW operations while fostering an inclusive, safe, and growth-oriented environment for Corpsmembers. Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinates the activities of Conservationist 1 and Corpsmembers

• Acting as work project liaison • Working cooperatively with the Con Sup and CMD C2

• Purchasing and accountability

Conservationist 2 will also respond to emergency assignments. PSCW C2's will respond to emergencies and serve as agency representatives. This consists of traveling to an assignment to live and work for an extended period. Emergency assignments include but are not limited to fires, floods, earthquakes, and out-of-state assignments.

Working Conditions

In Office – This position is classified as “In Office” and is not eligible for telework.

The Inland Empire District strives to create an all-inclusive environment where all our staff and Corpsmembers will feel welcomed and supported to thrive. This position will act as a lead worker to the PSCW department.

Project work mainly consists of providing support to the Conservationist Supervisors and acting in a lead capacity to the Conservationist 1, staff and Corpsmembers. The working conditions will vary from office work to outdoors including working in rural areas, remote locations, or wilderness areas. These positions will require you to respond to emergency assignments and will require you to travel and work extensive hours.

A Spike assignment might also be required for this position. These assignments will require traveling to the assigned project site and lodge for the duration of the assignment.

Special Requirements

  • Commercial Driver License – Provide evidence that a Commercial Class C license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement, or equivalent, has been obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

  • Pre-employment Drug Test – Pass a urine drug test. In accordance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations (49 CFR, Part 382), persons hired to a class requiring a commercial driver license must take and pass a pre-employment drug test. Please note: Per California Code of Regulations 213.5, applicants who fail the drug test pursuant to section 213.4 (h), will be disqualified from the examination in which they are competing and, except as provided by section 213.5 (e), shall not be eligible to take any State civil service examination for a class for which drug testing is required until one year has elapsed from the date the drug test specimen is given.

  • Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which may or may not also include a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

  • Medical Exam – a medical clearance examination is required for this classification

Eligibility Information

In order to be considered for the job vacancy you must satisfy one of the following requirements: 

  1. List Eligibility – Successfully complete the civil service exam for classification Conservationist II NOTE: Please refer to the exam bulletin for the frequency of administration of this exam.
  2. Transfer Eligibility – Must have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).
  3. Reinstatement Eligibility – Previously obtained permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above.
  4. Training & Development (T&D) Assignment – State employees in a permanent appointment, and no longer on probation, may be considered for a T&D assignment.
